CRITICAL ANALYSIS
In this brilliant novel verse written by Kip Wilson, writes about an 18 year old orphan named Hilde. The
story takes place in Berlin where World War II is about to start. She is finally released from the
orphanage. Hilde is shy and desperately looking for food, work and shelter. The brilliantly written
verses makes you feel as if you are in the story. Hilde has a change of luck when she finds a gay cabaret
club called Cafe Lila. She finds an angel of a friend there named Rosa. Rosa is her saving grace by
giving her food, work and shelter. Hilde starts realizing that she is developing feelings for Rosa and is
excited for her future. But little did Hilde know that her future in Berlin is hanging in a balance.
The verses on the pages are printed in a way where you can understand what Hilde is feeling. I had my
doubts at first with this novel and then I quickly realized I was wrong. I highly recommend this novel
verse for seventeen year olds and above. This novel will leave you guessing till the end.
